The Matrix Resurrections / Publicity still

If you search for reviews of The Matrix Resurrections, here are some of the titles you will see:

  • "The Matrix Resurrections: An Embarrassing Failure";
  • "The Matrix Resurrections: Genius or Garbage?";
  •  "How The Matrix Resurrections Perfected the Legacy Sequel";
  • "The Matrix Resurrections Is HORRIBLE";
  • "The Matrix Resurrections: Bad On Purpose?";
  • "The Matrix Resurrections Is Absolutely Beautiful"; and this gem from my favourite movie critic,
  • "The Matrix Resurrections Should Never Have Been Made".

I think we tend to over-analyze sometime. I teared-up when Neo and Trinity finally reunited. No matter the glaring plot holes and the fact that Fishburne and Weaving are irreplaceable, movies that make an emotional connection matter.1

After writing this blog, I came across this quote from director Lana Wachowski: "I couldn't have my mom and dad... yet suddenly I had Neo and Trinity, arguably the two most important characters in my life. It was immediately comforting to have these two characters alive again, and it's super-simple. You can look at it and say: "Okay, these two people die, and okay, bring these two people back to life, and oh, doesn't that feel good?" Yeah, it did! It's simple, and this is what art does and this is what stories do. They comfort us and they're important."
